Donna Walker is a floral, garden and interior designer based in Crested Butte, Colorado. Her experience combines three decades of floral, garden and event design with an intimate knowledge of plants and flowers gleaned from working at two internationally renowned botanical gardens. With her creative spirit, DIY expertise, and an eye for detail, Donna is famous for designing unforgettable landscapes, interiors and weddings.
Her career began as a floral designer and event coordinator in St. Louis, where Donna designed the decor, tablescapes and centerpieces for galas and fundraisers benefitting the Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis Zoo, The St. Louis Repertory Theater, American Youth Foundation, Friends for Kids with Cancer and many other organizations. While serving as a board member and volunteer coordinator for the Missouri Botanical Garden, Donna managed greenhouse propagation, special events, floral display and design, as well as the garden’s annual plant sale. She also served as a systems manager U.S Turf where she sold seed, fertilizer and landscape equipment and was trained in drip irrigation.
Moving back to her home state of Colorado in 2008, Donna joined the greenhouse at the Denver Botanic Gardens where she assists with planting, propagation and special events. She also serves as a volunteer for the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival and Gothic Wildflower Corridor, where she removes invasive and noxious weeds and replants native plants on reclaimed hillsides. As a garden designer, Donna has consulted on a wide range of landscapes from introducing drought-tolerant solutions to urban yards to the construction of planter boxes for growing vegetables.
Armed with professional sewing and crafting skills, Donna’s talents include designing pillows, draperies, and other home accessories, specializing in creative holiday decor and entertaining ideas. For her interior design work she focuses almost exclusively on reclaimed and sustainable materials, sourcing many of her finds from estate sales and antique markets around the state.
For 30 years Donna has designed weddings ranging from tiny backyard barbecues to glitzy ballroom blowouts. She loves working with creative brides and grooms who are looking to bring unique, personalized touches to their day, and can provide a range of skills appropriate for any wedding, from ideas and inspiration to DIY consultation to full-service floral design, event planning, and day-of coordination.
An avid fly-fisherwoman, hiker and whitewater rafter, Donna is typically found outdoors with her husband Tom and their flat-coated retriever Belle. She has three children named Alissa, Beth and Luke (all of whom were married during a 24-month span in weddings Donna designed) and is a proud grandmother to Wyatt, Avery and Ruby.
